Many students are either interested in learning about other religions, or they are turned off by it. Schools have the opportunity to introduce students to other ways of life, not to influence them in any way, but to educate them that there is more to this world. Teaching other religious texts would not necessarily be approved by everyone, but I feel that it is important. In an essay by Jeff Passe & Lara Wilcox: “Religion plays an important role in social studies content and is difficult to ignore, especially because of current world events. In our global society, it is more important than ever to know about and understand the religious beliefs of others. The social studies curriculum is infused with religion, but teachers circumvent the issue, mistakenly citing the separation of church and state as an obstacle”(102).
